How the calculation works
The discount calculator uses three steps. Discount amount = original_price × discount_percent / 100. Sale price = original_price − discount_amount. Tax amount (if applicable) = sale_price × tax_percent / 100. Final price = sale_price + tax_amount. For example, an $80 item at 25% off: discount = $80 × 0.25 = $20, sale price = $60. With 7% sales tax: tax = $60 × 0.07 = $4.20, final = $64.20. Total savings = $80 − $60 = $20 (plus you avoid tax on the discount portion).
