Sleep Calculator
Find your ideal bedtime or wake-up time based on 90-minute sleep cycles. Free sleep calculator so you wake up refreshed, not groggy.
A sleep calculator finds your ideal bedtime or wake-up time based on 90-minute sleep cycles. The average person goes through 4–6 full sleep cycles per night, and waking up in the middle of a cycle — rather than at its natural end — is what causes grogginess, even if you clocked enough hours. This calculator works backward from your desired wake-up time, subtracting the duration of your chosen number of cycles plus an estimated "time to fall asleep" buffer. The science behind it: each sleep cycle lasts roughly 90 minutes and includes light sleep, deep sleep, and REM sleep. Waking at the boundary between cycles feels refreshed; waking mid-cycle (especially from deep sleep) causes sleep inertia. This tool is useful for shift workers, students, parents with newborns, and anyone trying to optimize their sleep schedule. All calculations run in your browser — no sleep data is collected.

How the calculation works
The sleep calculator uses simple time arithmetic with a midnight-wrap check. Total sleep time in minutes = number of cycles × 90. Total time in bed = total sleep minutes + fall-asleep minutes. Bedtime is computed by subtracting total time in bed from the wake-up hour (converted to minutes), with wrap-around handling: if the result would be negative (before midnight), 24 hours (1,440 minutes) is added. For example, waking at 7:00 AM (420 minutes) with 5 cycles (450 minutes sleep) + 15 minutes to fall asleep = 465 minutes total. Bedtime minutes = 420 − 465 = −45, wrapped to 1,440 − 45 = 1,395 minutes, which is 23:15 or 11:15 PM.
