Hourly Paycheck Calculator

Estimate take-home pay from an hourly wage. Free hourly paycheck calculator.

An hourly paycheck calculator estimates take-home pay for an hourly wage earner. Enter your gross annual pay (your hourly rate times hours per week times weeks per year), your tax rate, and how many pay periods you have in a year, and the calculator works out the deductions and the net paycheck per period. Hourly workers often have variable schedules and overtime, so the annual figure is the stable input and the per-period number is what lands in the bank.

Use it to compare job offers quoted as hourly rates, to see how a different tax withholding changes take-home, or to switch between weekly, biweekly, and semimonthly pay schedules. Try the same gross annual pay at 24 versus 26 pay periods to see how the per-check amount shifts. The numbers run in your browser.

How the calculation works

The calculator starts from gross annual pay (hourly rate x hours per week x weeks worked), then subtracts deductions to find net annual pay, and divides by the number of pay periods for the per-check amount. Tax = gross x tax_rate / 100; total deductions = tax + benefits + retirement; net annual = gross - total deductions; paycheck = net annual / pay_periods. For example, a $45,000 gross annual pay at a 20% tax rate with 26 biweekly pay periods: tax = 45,000 x 20 / 100 = $9,000; assuming no other deductions, net annual = $36,000; biweekly paycheck = 36,000 / 26 ~= $1,385 per check. At 24 semimonthly periods the same net gives about $1,500 per check.
